Creative Retionale

Rationale :

Johannesburg, fondly known as Jozi; Joburg or Egoli, is the largest city in South Africa and is one of the 50 largest urban
areas in the world. Jozi houses over a million citizens from different backgrounds with some visiting the city for various reasons.
This series focuses on the different women who rule over the ever fast paced City of Gold.

First illustration (uMkhozi); Pays tribute to the street vendors; mothers who, on a daily basis, venture out to sell unique
snacks on the busy streets to support their families. uMkhozi wears a Golden Crown which represents Jozi - the City of Gold.

Second illustration (Beauty)
The illustration shows how the golden hands of the city will sell you dreams. The only way to achieve dreams sold by the
city of gold, one needs to go through the pain of hard-work. As in womenfolk tales, the term "suffer for beauty" comes in
play further elaborating on the fact that there is beauty in the struggle.

Third illustration (Cash is Queen);
Nothing is for mahala, no queen is crowned without paying her dues. Boys are taught never to give girls their money,
while girls are taught to find a man with money. The streets of Jozi are littered with golden tears of the hardworking women

'chasing that paper'.
